Man Lets Drivers Scroll TikTok by ‘Honking’

In a surprising use of technology, a popular YouTuber has developed a gadget that attaches to a car’s trunk and lets fellow drivers view TikTok videos on it while stuck in traffic. Furthermore, drivers can even swipe to the next reel by simply honking at the gadget.

TikTok users can now use honking to navigate their feed

On January 12, renowned YouTuber and innovator Matty Benedetto, who operates the immensely successful Unnecessary Inventions channel, shared a video revealing that he has developed a unique automobile accessory. In the clip, he explained that the device, featuring a live TikTok feed, a microphone, and a powerful magnet, mounts on the back of one’s car and lets approaching drivers scroll through the online video platform by honking.

Benedetto detailed how he built the one-of-a-kind gadget in the video, stating that it all started after he purchased a remote that lets you scroll through TikTok at the push of a button wirelessly. He subsequently disassembled the remote to isolate the circuit board and located the button that initiated the wireless scroll function. The person then soldered wires to the said button to allow himself to short it manually. Once the wires come in contact, the button would function normally and scroll to the next TikTok video.

The next step saw Benedetto add a microprocessor, connected to a microphone, along with a MOSFET driver. He subsequently programmed the microphone to react to loud noises, causing the microprocessor to short the wires whenever a loud sound, such as a honk, is detected. As a final touch, he 3D-printed parts to house the tablet and the added electronics, along with a magnet.

Explaining his reasoning behind such a unique invention, Matty Benedetto stated that it was to make traffic “a little bit more enjoyable.” However, it remains unclear if authorities would ever legalize the use of such a device.
