Las Vegas Sphere Company Plans a New One in This State

The massive success of the Las Vegas Sphere has motivated Madison Square Garden owner James Dolan to build its sibling – a similar high-tech venue in another state. On January 18, Sphere Entertainment officially announced that the company has proposed building a smaller-scale venue that will support only 6,000 people.

The Sphere in Las Vegas ranks among the highest-grossing entertainment venues in the world, according to Billboard and Pollstar’s 2025 global rankings. It seats roughly over 11,000 people, and offers the signature “Exosphere” exterior LED display as well as an immersive audio system.

Now, Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Sphere Entertainment, James Dolan, intends to bring its small-scale version to Maryland, Washington. The official press release from the company revealed that it will work with the State of Maryland, Prince George’s County, and Peterson Companies to develop the new venue, which has a financial backing of $200 million in public and private investment.

In the statement, Dolan said, “Our focus has always been on creating a global network of Spheres across forward-looking cities. Sphere is a new experiential medium. With a commitment to bringing innovative opportunities to residents and visitors, Governor Moore, County Executive Braveboy, the State of Maryland, and Prince George’s County recognize the potential for a Sphere at National Harbor to elevate and advance immersive experiences across the area.”

According to the company, the construction would add at least 2,500 jobs. Once the venue is operational, it could support another 4,750 positions. Additionally, Maryland Governor is hopeful that it would prove to be a landmark investment, representing one of the most significant economic development initiatives ever undertaken in Prince George’s County.

National Harbor is home to several hotels, dining, gambling, and convention space, which attract over 15 million people as of now. The new venue will be designed with year-round attractions, such as original immersive productions, concerts, and branded events, in mind. Apart from a massive interior LED-display, it will also feature haptic seating, immersive sound technology, and 4D environmental effects.
