Here’s What the Microsoft Excel Champion for 2025 Won

The Microsoft Excel World Championship 2025 wrapped up with yet another champion reigning supreme. This year’s champion beat out 23 Grand Final rivals at the Las Vegas HyperX Arena. The annual competition witnesses the world’s top spreadsheet wizards chasing the title. The champion went home with a coveted championship belt and a cash prize.

Diarmuid Early wins the Microsoft Excel Championship

Diarmuid Early has taken home the Microsoft Excel World Champion 2025 title after beating out 23 other top spreadsheet wizards at the HyperX Arena in Las Vegas. Along with the crown, the Excel pro walked away with a prize of $5,000 and a pro wrestling-style championship belt. Diarumuid had everyone gobsmacked by completing all 130 questions in the origami-inspired grand final case with five minutes to spare.

The 2025 Microsoft Excel World Championship Grand Final case draws inspiration from the Japanese art of Origami. Competitors folded “paper” in a spreadsheet using Excel coding. However, with each level, the initially easy folds turned into tricky 3D twists with diagonals.

Diarmuid Early’s strategic approach to the challenge earned him the sought-after accolade. Risking early elimination to build a solid foundation in the first 10 minutes paid off big for Early. Within the next 5 minutes, he blazed through the 8th position to lurk in 4th, crushing bonus questions along the way. By the 17th minute, Diarmuid was at the top and finishing the full set of questions five minutes early. Living up to his surname, the Irish representative held the pole position until the winning countdown was over.

After a year of intense competition, the Grand Finalists descended on Las Vegas for the Microsoft Excel World Championship climax. The journey towards the prize began with Battle 1 in January, winding through nine tournaments, 250+ online players, Last Chance Qualifiers, Wildcards, and Local Chapters.

Furthermore, the Microsoft Excel World Championship 2025 took things up a notch with its own theme song. Aptly named as “The Excel World Championship Song,” a section of the Excel anthem’s lyrics says “who’s going in the spreadsheet bin” and “who’s getting stuck in the function sand.”
