Rockstar Steps in After PS5 Users List GTA 6 as ‘Recently Played’

Excitement around “Grand Theft Auto VI” reached another strange milestone after PlayStation 5 users appeared to play the game prior to its official launch. Screenshots circulating online showed PSN profiles listing the highly anticipated title under the “Recently Played” section. It has apparently left the fans confused and intrigued. However, the apparent early access turned out to be due to a technical loophole rather than a secret preview.

Rockstar reacts after PS5 glitch lets users add GTA 6 to ‘recently played’

According to a report by IGN, the confusion began when new title IDs for “Grand Theft Auto VI” appeared in Sony’s PlayStation Store database. Such backend updates are common before pre-orders go live, but tech-savvy fans quickly discovered they could manipulate the system to make it appear as if they had launched the game.

By using the newly discovered IDs, some users managed to spoof their PlayStation Network profiles. It helps GTA 6 show up in the “Recently Played” section. The trick did not grant access to the game itself. Anyone checking the player’s trophy list could immediately see the truth, as all progress remained at zero.

Even though the workaround required several technical steps and wasn’t widely accessible, screenshots spread rapidly across social media. The viral posts sparked speculation that a small group of players had somehow gained early access to Rockstar’s upcoming blockbuster.

Rockstar Games did not issue a public statement regarding the exploit. However, according to reports from members of the GTA community, the studio acted quickly behind the scenes. The developer reportedly removed the game’s title IDs from the PlayStation backend, effectively shutting down the loophole and preventing further manipulation.

The swift response underscores how tightly Rockstar is controlling information about the sequel, which is widely considered one of the most anticipated video games ever.

“Grand Theft Auto VI” is currently scheduled to release on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Until then, fans will have to wait before they can legitimately add the game to their “Recently Played” list.

Rockstar’s marketing campaign for the title is expected to begin in summer 2026, meaning new trailers, gameplay details, and pre-order announcements could arrive in the coming months.
