Tell GR: What Time Period Should Be Featured in More Games?

We praised Kingdom Come: Deliverance as a result of its realistic portrayal of 15th century Bohemia in our review, awarding it a 4.5 out of 5 for its efforts. With most RPGs veering into high-fantasy, it’s refreshing to see a game that instead roots itself in reality, taking us back through the history books on a more true-to-life adventure.

While the general critical consensus of Kingdom Come has been mixed, the game has intrigued many as a result of its setting, with it swapping out slaying dragons for learning how to read and cooking up a nice stew. There are combat sections, sure, but players can essentially choose their own path through its story, with protagonist Henry able to become a raconteur rather than a fighter or pledge himself to religious pursuits over wanton violence.

Warhorse Studios’ dedication to bringing Kingdom Come‘s time period to life has caused it to attract a lot of attention, which has got us thinking: what other time periods should be featured in more games? Understandably, developers are more inclined to focus on fictional settings rather than carefully following historical events, but Kingdom Come has shown that there’s an audience for people who want realistic recreations of obscure periods from our history.

So what time period should more games use as their setting? As always, let us know in the comments section below, and be sure to check in on Sunday’s edition of The People Speak to see if your comment was featured.
