Warhorse Studios Confirms Rumors of New ‘Lord of the Rings’ Game

Warhorse Studios has confirmed that a new Lord of the Rings RPG game is in the works. The announcement ends a period of rumors that began when fans noticed job listings and trademark filings hinting at a Middle-earth project.

New ‘Lord of the Rings’ game in development at Warhorse

Warhorse Studios is now turning to high fantasy, with a new “Lord of the Rings” game currently in development.

The acclaimed studio behind Kingdom Come: Deliverance has revealed its future plans. The team is developing both a Lord of the Rings RPG and a new installment in the Kingdom Come series.

In an X (formerly Twitter) post, the developer described it as an “open world Middle-earth RPG,” hinting that the setting could extend beyond the Third Age. The project is expected to follow the same template that made “Kingdom Come: Deliverance” a success.

The reveal drew immediate attention from fans, with one writing, “Me waking up & seeing this.” “We did in fact, heard the rumours. And we wish you a great success!” echoed another. “You have my money,” read a hype comment.

Warhorse Studios developed “Kingdom Come: Deliverance”, a story-driven open-world RPG set in medieval Bohemia and noted for its historical detail. The studio’s experience with that game style aligns with the structure of the announced Middle-earth RPG.

On the Kingdom Come front, Warhorse announced a new adventure is in the works. It’s widely assumed to be “Deliverance 3″, though the studio hasn’t confirmed the title, and it could be a spinoff. “We’re excited to tell you more when the time is right,” Warhorse added.

The reveal comes alongside Embracer’s plan to spin off Fellowship Entertainment, a division built to prioritize its major franchises. Embracer also signaled it will “more actively be exploring” external partnerships around key properties, including “Saints Row”, “Legacy of Kain”, “Deus Ex”, “Red Faction”, “The Mask”, “Thief”, and “TimeSplitters”.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 was released last year and performed well critically and commercially. Warhorse has found success with the franchise but has recently drawn criticism over generative AI.
