Tell GR | Which game ruined a series you loved?

We’ve all played our fair share of bad games, but it’s even worse when a bad game is released in a series you previously loved. After you’ve experienced the worst a particular series has to offer, it’s often difficult to return to its next entries with the same mindset.

The Game Revolution team described the games which have ruined series they’ve previously loved below. As always, leave your own responses in the comments section, and we’ll feature our favorite reply in tomorrow’s Tell GR!

Paul Tamburro, executive editor:Fallout 76 wasn’t just a bad game, it also represented many of the things that the series had criticized. Remember how nukes created its apocalyptic wasteland as a result of a World War 3 that lasted for 30 seconds? Well, now you can team up with your friends and set off nukes together! The cheery Vault-Boy mascot used to poke fun at the propaganda spouted by mega-corporations? Now he’s used to shill a ridiculous Fallout 1st monthly subscription! It’s difficult to look at Fallout in the same light after 76, and Fallout 5 is going to have to do something miraculous to get me to care about this series again.”

Mack Ashworth, lead editor: “I think NBA Live 06 was the game that turned me off that series. I, like many others, then went over to the 2K series for our virtual basketball fix.”

Jason Faulkner, senior editor: Fallout 76 single-handedly destroyed any enthusiasm for the series I had. Previously, I thought it was pretty cool, but now I just cringe whenever I see anything Fallout-related. Bethesda really drained all the soul out of it and now it just reeks of commercialism and greed. The way it was handled was so bad it dampened my enthusiasm for other Bethesda properties, too. I’m not pumped for Elder Scrolls VI or really anything they’ve got coming besides Doom Eternal.”

Michael Leri, features editor: Ninja Gaiden 3 and Yaiba Ninja Gaiden Z were so awful that they killed the ambition I had for the series. The first two entries were smooth action games at the zenith of precision and control. Few games were as rewarding to play. But those next two installments were mindless, poorly constructed dribble not even worthy of a rental, especially Yaiba as it is the worst game I’ve ever played. Razor’s Edge attempted to fix NG3, but it hardly mattered as the game was still a braindead mess. Either one would have been trouble for the series but together, they bastardized a once-great franchise beyond recognition.”
