Tell GR | Are you hyped for Half-Life: Alyx?

Half-Life: Alyx has now been officially revealed, with Valve unveiling its brand new VR entry Half-Life series. While it’s not exactly the direct Half-Life 2 sequel fans were hoping for, many are still excited by what Valve has shown in the game’s debut trailer.

Watch the trailer below:

But we want to know what you think. Are you interested in Half-Life: Alyx? Or are you just disappointed that it’s no Half-Life 3? Let us know in the comments, and we’ll feature our favorite response in Monday’s Tell GR.

Paul Tamburro, executive editor: Half-Life passed me by as a series — by the time I got around to playing it with The Orange Box plenty of shooters had already emulated it. As such, I’m not exactly massively disappointed we don’t have a proper Half-Life 3, and I’m interested in what Valve’s doing with Half-Life: Alyx. Some of the intricacies shown in the trailer, such as Alyx scouring through shelves to pick up ammo, look like they’ll be impressive in a VR space. I’ll definitely give the game a shot.”

Jason Faulkner, senior editor: “I’m not really excited for Half-Life: Alyx at all. It’s just another case of a company hearing what the fans want for years (Half-Life 3) and then doing something completely different. Given how much of a meme Half-Life 3 is at this point, I’m not sure how serious Valve is about continuing the series after the announcement of this game. It seems like it’s just a gimmick to get people to buy into SteamVR/Index.”

Mack Ashworth, lead editor: “I’m pretty excited to see SOMETHING that expands the Half-Life story. I love that it’s a full-length game, as opposed to a 2-hour shooting gallery. I’ll wait for reviews before grabbing a VR headset, but it looks promising!”

Michael Leri, features editor: “Given how long it took and how confidently Valve is saying it’ll come out in March, I’m pretty excited for what Half-Life: Alyx. Even though I’ll probably never get to play it because I don’t have the space for VR, I have faith that Valve will make a great game. Will it be as revolutionary as the first two? That remains to be be seen but putting it on VR gives an opportunity to move forward like few other first-person shooters. Or, you know, it could just be a shooting gallery with headcrabs.”
