What’s the most hilarious game you’ve ever played? | Tell GR

There are few games that look to be intentionally funny. Sure, there are games that are inadvertently funny due to how you play them, and games that are so bad that they wind up being funny, but few are genuinely hilarious in their own right. In today’s Tell GR, we want to know which game has tickled your funny bone more than any either.

Leave your response in the comments section below, and we’ll feature our favorite in tomorrow’s Tell GR!

Paul Tamburro, executive editor: “In terms of its writing, The Stanley Parable is the funniest game I’ve ever played. But in terms of the number of belly laughs a game has given me while playing, the winner is undoubtedly Gang Beasts. Its slapstick humor is done just right, and the satisfying ‘thud’ when you knock out a friend is endlessly entertaining. It’s one of the best couch multiplayer games ever and it doesn’t get enough love.”

Michael Leri, features editor: “While I think I’ve grown out of South Park humor over these last few years, I think South Park: The Stick of Truth was the funniest game I’ve ever played. It had a great mix of clever jokes, shock humor, and sheer stupidity that worked quite well as it was always exercising a different style of comedy. But the way in which these jokes work their way into the gameplay is where Stick of Truth edges out the competition. You didn’t just see a Nazi fetus, you fought. You didn’t just hear fart jokes, it was a style of attack. Other games like Portal 2 and Donut County are incredibly witty and hilarious, too, but the cohesive nature of The Stick of Truth is why it is so memorable to me, despite the creeping feeling that I wouldn’t necessarily love it as much now.”

Mack Ashworth, lead editor: “I think I’ll choose Saints Row 2. I didn’t anticipate just how wild and wacky it was going to push things. It went in a completely different direction to GTA, which opted for realism instead. Being able to Pimp Slap a fool in Saints Row 2 multiplayer, sending them flying across the map, was fantastic. Co-op antics made for many good laughs, too.”

Jason Faulkner, senior editor: “I think Trover Saves the Universe is the funniest game I’ve ever played. It’s just so over the top and foul that I can’t help but laugh. The comedy isn’t “smart,” and its incredibly offensive, but god it gets me rolling. I wish the gameplay was a little less frustrating, but the script makes it worth playing.”
