In this May 26 edition of Retro Ad Replay, we’re heading back 11 years to when Infamous first launched on PS3. May 26, 2009 was the day when players first got the chance to play as Cole, a superpowered chap who was on the hunt for the Ray Sphere. His adventure pitted him against many a bad guy, which is where his electric powers came in extremely useful!

The original GameRevolution Infamous review awarded the game a 4, with positive comments made about the “huge, free-roaming city,” “fun superpowers,” and “lots and lots of missions.”

Here’s a snippet from the GR review:

Anyway, as a ex-delivery guy named Cole, you have your own problems to deal with. You get ordered around Empire City on different missions by an FBI agent (maybe), your pudgy best friend (who might be lying to you), your bitchy ex=girlfriend, the chick who talks in your head, and an NSA agent (again, maybe). Okay, so the bizarre hodge-podge of a plot doesn’t make a lot of sense, but you have superpowers and a huge, open city to explore and do whatever you like, and that’s fun, right?

And it certainly is fun because one of your superpowers is the ability to run, jump, and climb more nimbly than a CAT WITH A BLACK BELT IN NINJITSU. You can scale the tallest skyscrapers with ease, dart along power lines as if your shoes were a skateboard, and survive any fall without a scratch.

You can find the Infamous “Superpowers” trailer embedded below, which showcases Cole’s awesome powers:
