An Updating List of Xbox One Updates We Want

Microsoft's next-gen console has a lot going for it, particularly in regard to exclusive software that simply isn't available on PlayStation 4. Still, we'd like to see a few notable updates made to the system's firm ware. Many gamers like using Snap to accomplish two things at once, but others would probably like to see the feature work even if they purchased the new Kinect-free SKU that costs $100 less than the original Xbox One launch package. Further, Microsoft has a big year ahead of it and consistent updates have been promised throughout 2014.

Here's how we want to see Xbox One update next. We'll update with more and remove any features as they're officially added to the firmware.

Snap without Kinect

With Kinect adding cost to the cheapest Xbox One SKU available at the moment and holding older units on store shelves with a higher price tag, we'll guess that the most popular and helpful "next-gen console feature" needs a quick update or many consumers will never use the feature. Still, options exist for a simple update like using the chat headset or a specific use of the home button.

More TV-focused Snap features

Snap allows you to get statistics during a sporting event or helpful tips while playing a game, but there could be more interactivity offered while watching TV. Snap could offer trivia questions while watching old reruns of your favorite sitcoms or a link to a recipe while watching FOOD Network. If you're watching a music video, you should be able to Snap to the song's page in the Microsoft store and take it out the door with you on your Windows phone.

Primetime Partnering

Microsoft should take some immediate steps to monetize Xbox One advertising by showing people the features of the device and how it interacts with or changes the TV watching experience. Reality shows that currently feature Xbox One advertising should absolutely add a web- or Snap-based voting feature based on the show. SharkTank should let you vote as people present their business ideas while Survivor should have a live vote of who should be kicked off the island. Snap could also tie to social media by featuring tweets during these shows.

Continued family support

One thing that likely helped drive Xbox 360 support with families was probably some of the more kid and family friendly branding available both on disc and in the Xbox Live marketplace. Viva Piñata needs to have a downloadable game made available on Xbox One or at least given its own Project Spark subcontent given that the foul-mouthed Conker has one in what should be an extremely open-minded platform for creation.

We'll update this list with more this week.
