LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes Preview

Take back Gotham City, brick by brick.

Traveller's Tales have crafted quite the niche for themselves. The LEGO games are entertaining, childishly fantastical affairs where people aren't shot and killed. Instead, the minifigures explode into the bits and blocks that make them up. The same goes for thugs and villains in Gotham City. Batman and Robin don't just beat their opponents upthey dismantle them piece by piece.

If that LEGO-on-LEGO brand violence is getting tired for you, maybe the game's open world will be enough to entice you. Maybe the dozens of DC heroes and villains will keep you entertained. There is a ton of content in LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes, more so than any LEGO game before it. Encompassing both Gotham City and Metropolis, DCSH seems to check every box on the fan's wish list.

And more power to DC and Warner Bros for giving Traveller's Tales the go ahead to pack so much comic-book-action into one title. The demo section at E3 featured Batman and Robin in co-op play at the ACE Chemical factory.

Joker has set a chemical bomb in the factory, which pushes the dynamic duo through some light puzzling and brawling. Robin and Batman could don different suits to complete tasks on their way to gathering the chemicals they'd need to dismantle Joker's trap.

Robin can use a water-gun suit to clean up chemical spills and Batman can use a battery suit to charge up and shoot electricity at his opponents. In true LEGO fashion, two players could co-op the level from start to finish, and one player can drop out at any time.

DCSH also introduces full voice-acting to the LEGO universe. While it might seem like vocal exposition could ruin the physical humor the LEGO games have built their reputation on, my impression was that it only added and complimented the brick-on brick-slapstick.

LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes is slated for release on PS3, 360, Vita, 3DS, Wii, and DS this month on June 19th.
