Glorious Model O Review

Glorious Model O Review | The best a wired mouse can get

After having been convinced that wireless mice have now become good enough to replace wired variants, with the Logitech G502 Lightspeed delivering an incredible experience and the HyperX Pulsefire Dart nailing wirelessness at a lower price tag, I had started to forget about wired solutions. Surely wireless was now the way to go? Well, Glorious PC Gaming Race has something to say about that, as it has produced the Model O mouse. Its price tag of $50 might make you doubt its performance, but man, is this one hell of a device! Here is my Glorious Model O review

Glorious Model O Review | All aboard the hype train

Glorious Model O Review

I bought the Glorious Model O out of pure curiosity. I’d not only heard the hype from personalities online, but also from my friends, many of whom I knew were especially critical when it came to swapping out peripherals. If the mouse was trash, they would let me know about it. Instead, they convinced me to plop down the dollars needed.

Shipping to the U.K. took a little bit of time, which was further extended by a pesky customs charge, but I eventually got the mouse in my possession. My first impressions mirror my current impressions, as I was wowed by the mouse on day one and I’m still wowed by the mouse a month later.

The Model O claims to be the “world’s lighting RGB gaming mouse” and I believe it. At 67 grams, it makes my 114g Logitech G502 Lightspeed feel significant heavier. The honeycomb shell that encases the mouse’s internals keeps them protected while shredding unnecessary plastic weight. These holes are also intended to provide ventilation to keep the user’s hand cool.

The ability to slide effortlessly across the desk and be easy to lift to reset position is also aided by the Model O’s “Ascended Cord.” This braided cable is super flexible and light, which really does make it seem as though it’s not there. Glorious claim an “almost wireless feel,” and I can get behind that.

Ensuring that the industry-standard Pixart 3360 sensor is able to function at its best are the “G-Skates” feet. These allow the mouse to glide cleaner over the mousepad, reducing any drag or friction that would otherwise cause inconsistencies. Overall, the setup is clearly well thought out and I’m seriously impressed after using it to win games in Apex Legends, PUBG, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and Gears 5.

Glorious Model O Review | To software or not to software

Glorious Model O Review

Good hardware can sometimes be let down by bad, mandatory software. Thankfully, this is not the case with the Glorious Model O. If you want to use the mouse at stock settings with no messing about, it will work right out of the box. However, to configure lighting and button assignments, you’ll have to download the software.

Thankfully, like the mouse itself, the companion software is lightweight. It boasts an easy-to-use interface that I spent literally five minutes setting up. I changed the functions of the two side buttons and DPI button sat on top of the mouse to something more useful for first-person shooters, and then I switched the color of the entire mouse to red. The RGB is very bright and looks great, but it can be toned down if needed.

It’s also possible to create additional profiles, but this is a relatively simple mouse with a limited number of buttons, so I didn’t find it necessary.

Glorious Model O Review | The hype is real

Glorious Model O Review

For $50, you really can’t go wrong with the Glorious Model O. And, if you need a smaller mouse, then the Glorious Model O- is now available for the same price. They both come in Matte Black, Matte White, Glossy Black, and Glossy White. (I went for the safe choice of Matte Black, though I would love to get my hands on the glossy one!)

If your heart is set on going wireless, then I can’t blame you, and if you need more buttons for an MMO, then the Model O isn’t going to tick your boxes. However, for everyone else who is looking for a top-tier, competitive-grade mouse at cheap price, the Glorious Model O is now my go-to recommendation (assuming you’re lucky enough to find it in stock).
