GEEKOM Mini IT12 review

GEEKOM Mini IT12 PC Review

GEEKOM is back again, this time with its Mini IT12 kitted out with a choice of two 12th Gen Intel processors, the i7-12650H and the i5-12450H. These powerful processors are placed inside a small-form-factor case, giving users both power and portability, assuming the limited space doesn’t hinder performance. How has this tiny PC fared during my testing? Find out in this, my GEEKOM Mini IT12 PC review.

Big power

GEEKOM Mini IT12 review

Under the hood of my unit is the i7-12650H processor, joined by 32GB of DDR4 RAM and a 1TB PCIe Gen 4 SSD. It’s an excellent starting point and many users will never have to think about upgrading. However, if you do want more RAM or storage, the internals are easily accessible, so bumping the RAM up to 64 GB and/or the storage up to multiple terabytes is an option.

Aiding the PC’s longevity and versatility is the I/O selection. The Mini IT12 features two HDMI ports, six USB ports, and a 2.5 GbE LAN port.

Capable for most tasks

GEEKOM Mini IT12 review

Thanks to the relatively high-power processor, the GEEKOM Mini IT12 is capable of juggling lots of tasks. It might be small – and it really is tiny – but it is surprisingly capable of handling photo and video edits, in addition to everyday tasks within browsers and word processing software. It can even game and stream, though it’s important to keep your expectations in check, as there’s no dedicated graphics card or anything like that.

I also love that GEEKOM’s Windows installs are clean and simple. There’s no wild bloatware to deal with and users can just plug in and get going.

A hiccup or two

GEEKOM Mini IT12 review

The elephant in the room when looking at the spec sheet is the DDR4 RAM. However, for the price and target audience, I think forgoing DDR5 is fine. Most users won’t notice the difference in everyday production and I certainly didn’t notice any hiccups during my testing.

The only other area of improvement I noted was fan noise. Out of the box, the fan noise is louder than expected during light usage. While not deafening, it’s louder than expected, especially compared to other GEEKOM mini PCs I’ve tested.

Final Verdict

All in all, the GEEKOM Mini IT12 is a great addition to the company’s budget-friendly mini PCs. With an RRP of $429 — though made lower using the codes detailed below — it’s a solid option for anyone looking to declutter their workspace without sacrificing performance.
