Viaim RecDot Review

Viaim RecDot AI Voice Recorder Earbuds Review

The Viaim RecDot AI Recorder earbuds go a step further than most other earphones. Yes, they can play audio at a flagship level, with premium components that deliver excellent sound, but they also want to be your AI assistant with transcription and translation. If you’re a frequent taker of meetings or lectures, or are traveling the world, the RecDot earbuds’ AI features could be of serious interest. After using them for both listening to music and taking notes, it’s time for my review.

The AI advantage

Diving right into the AI features, the RecDot earbuds support real-time transcription and translation across 17 different languages. The earphones work in tandem with the Viaim app to provide translation and transcription features. It’s a smooth experience and has been flawless during my time testing.

The FlashRecord button on the case allows you to record audio, phone calls, or videos. Once the recording is completed, users can view the transcription and use the AI functionality to summarize what was said. This is extremely handy for meetings or lectures where people are talking quickly. In addition to summarizing conversations, the AI can also generate to-do lists. If your boss or teacher has asked for actions to be completed, you’ll find them listed here. It’s generally pretty accurate, provided the speaker is clear while talking.

Viaim RecDot Review

Though the recording features are what set the RecDot earbuds apart from the competition, they are also decent earphones. With 48dB active noise cancellation, Bluetooth 5.2 support, and solid battery life with up to 36 hours of longevity with the case, these earphones make great listening companions even when they aren’t recording or providing transcriptions and translations.

The main highlight of the Viaim RecDot earbuds is, unsurprisingly, the transcription and summarization features. They are impressively quick and accurate. The physical record button on the case is also worthy of highlighting, as it provides a foolproof way of activation.

Sound quality is solid, too, with the earbuds providing the common V-shaped sound with a wider-than-expected soundstage.

The downsides

The RecDot’s weaker aspects include the noise cancellation, which falls short of the similarly priced competition. However, what it lacks in ANC prowess it gains in additional AI functionality, so potential buyers will want to weigh up what they value most.

While recording accuracy is impressively consistent, it occasionally makes minor errors, such as adding unnecessary punctuation. This usually happens when the speaker isn’t as clear.

Final Verdict

At $249.99, Viaim is targeting the higher-end market with the RecDot earbuds. While this does put them up against some incredible earphones from the likes of Apple, Sony, and Bose, the AI features offered by the RecDot set them apart. For the right user, the RecDot’s ability to transcribe and translate will offer huge value. Fortunately, that functionality works very well.
