Google & Apple Collaborating To Allow Easy Switching Between Them — Report

Google and Apple are now working together to make it easier to move from one phone platform to the other. Code in the latest Android Canary build shows the two firms have begun adding a new switch flow that will appear during device setup. Apple has said it will add the same feature to a future iOS 26 release. The work is just starting in developer channels and will help with data transfer between Android and iPhone.

Google and Apple are reportedly working together to make switching between their mobile OS easier

Android Canary 2512 introduces new code that lets people transfer more types of data while they set up a new phone. As one report put it, “this will be available during the device setup process.” Google’s Canary rollout names the feature as “Android Canary 2512 (ZP11.251121.010) on all Pixel devices.”

Apple plans to test the same experience in an iOS 26 developer beta. Developers and testers will get early versions first, not the general public.

Both companies warn that these early builds are unstable. “As always, Android Canary and iOS developer betas are not intended for general use, and might have other performance issues.” It is a reminder that the feature will take time to reach Android Beta channels and a final iOS release.

This feature, once released widely, would help users in transferring data between the two operating systems with ease. The new code might even improve apps currently in use, such as Google’s Android Switch and Apple’s Move to iOS. It might build the process directly into the setup and support extra data types. Regulators in some regions have been pushing for better interoperability, and this effort looks like a direct response to that pressure.

As of right now, wider rollout will follow only after testing. Thus, most users will still have to rely on the existing transfer apps until both companies finish the work.
