Xbox Series X|S Warzone 120 Hz Option Finally Re-added After Five Months

After being absent since December last year, an option for 120 FPS has returned to Call of Duty: Warzone on Xbox Series X|S. Lead developer on Warzone, Raven Software, announced last week it was reimplementing the feature with the season 3 mid-season update for both the Battle Royale and Call of Duty: Vanguard.

Call of Duty: Warzone 120 Hz mode has returned to Xbox Series X|S

The developers have been working on a 120 Hz support fix for Warzone since late last year. It was removed on both Xbox Series consoles shortly after Call of Duty: Warzone Pacific launched with Caldera. No such issues were seen on PS5, which has had 120 FPS the whole time. It was reported the bug occurred due to a backend system software update on the Xbox platform. It was obviously not an easy issue for Raven to fix, with it taking them over five months to remove the bug. The Wisconsin-based developer gave an update to CharlieIntel in March, stating they were still working on a fix.

Outside of Call of Duty: Warzone, the annualized Call of Duty franchise is no stranger to 120 FPS options. Call of Duty: Vanguard and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War both supported 120 FPS for the campaign and multiplayer on PS5, Xbox Series X|S. You would expect this year’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 to support 120 FPS on current generation consoles, too. However, this has not been confirmed as yet.

Call of Duty: Warzone has recently concluded one of its most notable events. Operation Monarch finished yesterday in Caldera, which brought a wild Godzilla vs Kong battle in-game.

In other news, an Xbox Series X/S and PS5 upgrade may be coming in 2023 or 2024, according to a recent tech presentation. The launch day for Ubisoft’s Roller Champions was plagued with crashing issues on all platforms. Meanwhile, read our preview of Supermassive Games’ The Quarry.
