Buying Every Overwatch League Team Skin Costs at Least $1200

The Overwatch League Team skins have been released today, but players who want to collect them all will either be left empty-handed or spent at least $1200 on unlocking them.

The skins were released today by Blizzard, with each skin available to unlock for 100 League Tokens each. Blizzard has given each player 100 League Tokens for free to unlock one skin, but the rest are available to purchase using real-world cash.

In the US, the denominations are as follows:

  • 100 Tokens = USD $4.99
  • 200 Tokens = USD $9.99
  • 400 Tokens = USD $19.99
  • 900 Tokens = USD $39.99
  • 2600 Tokens = USD $99.99

2600 Tokens will allow players to purchase a skin for every hero in the game. However, there are 12 teams participating in the Overwatch League, meaning that there are a grand total of 312 skins. If players want to unlock every skin and choose to do so by purchasing the 2600 Token bundle, they are looking to spend around $1200. However, with each skin selling individually for $4.99, avid collectors could spend as much as $1550 on obtaining every skin.

Considering that these skins do little other than swap the color palettes of Overwatch‘s heroes for the recognizable colors of each team, $4.99 is a steep asking price. Fifty percent of the revenue generated by sales of the Overwatch League team skins will go in a shared pot that will be split between each team, but this is still a lot to ask of Overwatch players. Considering that skins are a big deal to many fans of the FPS, this news will be disappointing to those who were looking forward to adding to their collection.
