Fortnite 5.40 Update Patch Notes: New Storm Behavior, Vaulted Weapons, and More

As always on Fortnite, once a new patch drops it’s cause for both celebration and alarm. Any and all changes can completely alter the balance of the game, and Epic isn’t known for making small ones. The Fortnite 5.40 Update is coming soon, and we’ve got the first details about what’s coming in the Fortnite 5.40 Patch Notes. Storm damage, the removal of a weapon, and some key item changes. Let’s go through what we know.

Fortnite 5.40 Update Storm Damage

Storm Damage is a new feature coming in patch 5.40, and it should make the end-game more interesting. Being outside the storm barrier already damages players, but so far it doesn’t damage player-built structures. In the 5.40 update, it will. This won’t make much difference to most matches or players, but this will affect the end of matches where the safe area has become really small, and players are building huge structures. Now they’ll get destroyed as the Storm closes in, making things a lot more tense.

Fortnite Patch 5.40 Vaulted Weapons

In the upcoming update, the Revolver will be getting Vaulted (removed from the game). It’s an unusual choice certainly, as not only is the Revolver not a new weapon (it was introduced all the way back in patch 1.6), it’s not particularly loved or hated. Maybe that’s the problem. Either way, Epic says that it is Vaulting the Revolver for now “as part of an initiative to keep the item pool feeling fresh and dynamic.” Apparently Season 6 may see more items being Vaulted too.

Fortnite 5.40 Item Updates

Apart from the loss of the Revolver, there will be a few updates to some of the items in the game. C4 Remote Explosives will be going from Rare to Epic, and apparently will get a lot more explosive to match their upgraded designation. The popular Boogie Bombs will now drop in stack size of two instead of just one, and likewise Shields will go from a maximum stack size of two to three. Epic will also be adding a mysterious new mobility item too, which may well be the Fortnite Grappler.

Will the Fortnite 5.40 update drop alongside the High Stakes Event next week? We’ll have to wait and see.
