The announcement that the Xbox One would cost $499 totally sucked the wind out of Microsoft's sails during its E3 press conference. After unveiling a slew of awesome games, many of which are exclusive to the platform, the disappointing news bomb had us all shaking our heads. Matters only got worse when Sony followed up later that night with the reveal that the PS4 would only cost $399.
As such, Microsoft has a lot of persuading to do over the next few months if it hopes to convince gamers they need to purchase the next-gen Xbox. According to Microsoft's Don Mattrick, the value of the box will speak for itself.
The MS exec told Bloomberg TV that the company is "over-delivering" when it comes to value, especially in today's technological landscape. “Any modern product these days you look at it [and] $499 isn’t a ridiculous price point. We’re delivering thousands of dollars of value to people, so I think they’re going to love it when they use it.”
