No Female Lead In GTA Because “Being Masculine Was So Key To This Story”

Before proper details of Grand Theft Auto V were unveiled, there was a substantial amount of speculation regarding a female protagonist. With Michael, Trevor, and Franklin serving as the game's three leads, that clearly didn't turn out to be the case.

Speaking to The Guardian, Rockstar's Dan Houser explained why there isn't a playable female character, saying that "the concept of being masculine was so key to this story."

Houser then went on to discuss the studio's three-pronged character approach, adding, "Having three protagonists allows us to create nuanced stories, not a set of archetypes. Rather than seeming like you've got this super-criminal who can do everything effortlessly, they're all good and bad at different things."

What do you think of Rockstar's decision to not include a female lead this time around? Should the inevitable Grand Theft Auto VI or perhaps future DLC bring a woman into the mix? Sound off with your thoughts in the comments below.
