Red Dead Redemption remake release date

Red Dead Redemption remake Release Date: PS4, PS5, Xbox, PC, Switch

Fans are clamoring for a Red Dead Redemption remake release date. It’s been 12 years since the groundbreaking game was released and almost four years since the prequel launched on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. While Xbox backward compatibility does allow users to play RDR with some graphical enhancements, we’re all ready to see the original get brought up to the same standard as the highly-lauded RDR2 with a complete remake.

When will we see a Red Dead Redemption remake release date?

Red Dead Redemption remake release date platforms

So far, there is no official Red Dead Redemption remake release date. Rockstar Games hasn’t confirmed that it’s working on one, and we don’t expect to see one in the near future. There have been rumors of a Red Dead Redemption remake since before the second game in the series came out, but nothing substantial has come of them.

The most significant evidence in favor of a possible Red Dead Redemption remake is the fact that the entire map is in RDR2. Mexico isn’t reachable by normal means, but settlements from the United States side are there, even though Arthur can’t visit them, and there’s little for the player to do there with John in the epilogue. It was assumed that these assets would be used to produce an RDR remake, even if it was just one that ported the assets from the first into the upgraded engine.

It’s likely that one of three things have occurred:

  • An RDR remake is in production, and nothing major has managed to leak.
  • An RDR remake was in production but canceled like the single-player DLC for GTAV was.
  • There was never an RDR remake in the works.

Of the three, we’d bet on number two being the most likely. Our bet is that the developers started preliminary work on an RDR remake DLC or separate game during production on RDR2. We imagine that the departure of key personnel and increased emphasis on GTA Online led to its cancellation.

What platforms would the RDR remake be on?

We imagine that it’d be a cross-generational title if it was made. It would likely come alongside a current-gen upgrade to RDR2. If it’s in the works, we imagine we’d see it sometime after the release of the current-gen GTA V upgrade.
