What If? Season 2 Release Date Rumors, Cast, News, Leaks, and More

In 2021, Disney+ gave us What If?, an animated series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This show took a look at certain moments in the MCU and shows what would have happened if they occurred differently. A second season of What If? was announced in December 2019, and this is everything we currently know about the release date and cast surrounding season 2.

When is the What If season 2 release date?

Many superhero fans have been wondering when we’ll be getting the new season of this Disney+ show. While the show was omitted from the San Diego Comic-Con 2022 Phase Five announcements, early reports have stated that season 2 of What If? will be released in early 2023. The season will consist of nine episodes.

Jeffrey Wright will be returning to his voice role as The Watcher, the principal character of What If? The cast will also see the reprisal of Hayley Atwell as Captain Carter, who portrayed the character in the first season and in live-action in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Josh Keaton will be voicing Steve Rogers/HYDRA Stomper, and we will also have Lake Bell as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, Cynthia McWilliams as Gamora, and Mick Wingert as Tony Stark/Iron Man.

Like the first season, season 2 will also bring in live-action MCU actors to portray their animated counterparts. This includes Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Rachel Weisz as Melina Vostokoff, Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, Taika Waititi as Korg, and many more familiar Marvel voices.

This plot picks up after the Guardians of the Multiverse stop Infinity Ultron, where The Watcher meets new heroes and worlds in an expanding multiverse. The season premiere will be called “What If…Captain Carter Fought The HYDRA Stomper?” In The Making of What If?, it was revealed that season 2 would expand the relationship between Captain Carter and The Watcher.

Early footage has shown an animated look at many of the characters who will appear in season 2, such as Shang-Chi, Valkyrie, and Hela. The season will explore even more universes where our favorite MCU moments happened differently. We will see Wenwu fighting Odin and Bucky saving Red Guardian. One episode will be an adaptation of Marvel 1602, a limited series comic run written by Neil Gaiman. This comic places Marvel’s heroes and villains in the year 1602.

With season 2 of What If? mere months away, there is a lot of information about this upcoming season, which is set to provide a vast, entertaining look at Marvel’s ever-expanding multiverse.
