The XGIMI MoGo 4 Laser bucks the trend of projector design with a highly portable, yet surprisingly powerful, system. With its triple-laser tech and high-capacity battery, this could be the best portable projector out there. After using it both in my home and on the road, it’s time for my review.
Triple-laser
As mentioned in the intro, the MoGo 4 Laser’s flagship feature is the triple-laser system, resulting in a brighter, richer output. XGIMI promises 550 ISO lumens of brightness to illuminate the 1080p image and a 1000:1 contrast ratio.
With the triple-laser tech, the resulting image is surprisingly clear with high contrast, capable of a clear output outside from sunset and beyond. This makes it a solid choice for road trips with camping spots.
When at home, the MoGo 4 Laser is more than capable, and is simple to set up in any room or the garden.
Google TV to the rescue

Booting the MoGo 4 Laser up for the first time takes users to Google TV, which makes for a smooth setup process. Additionally, Netflix works right out of the box, which isn’t always the case for competing projectors.
An interesting extra are the magnetic filters, which turn the MoGo 4 Laser into a high-end mood light. I was given Sunset, Dreamscape, Lunar, and Ripple. These shine a colourful light onto the wall, elevating the ambience. I think it’s a nice touch, even if some users will never take advantage of it.
Battery life

With brightness cranked up to the absolute maximum and all bells and whistles enabled, this projector lasted 92 minutes while streaming a movie on Netflix. Obviously, to survive a longer movie, some settings will have to be disabled and/or the brightness lowered. Alternatively, the XGIMI PowerBase can be used for convenient charging, though this is cheating a bit!
The best and worst bits

The key highlights of the MoGo 4 Laser are the triple-laser system, with its impressive colors and contrast; the portability on offer, as this is an impressively small device considering the power it boasts; and the software experience, as Google TV is so smooth when compared to the often laggy competitors.
When it comes to downsides, the obvious spec low light is the 550 ISO lumens which, while good for a projector of this size, is still relatively low when compared to higher-end projectors. If you’re used to more premium devices at home, the MoGo 4 Laser’s max brightness may be too jarring.

Overall battery life could use a boost, too. While it’s better than many competitors, the fact still remains: most movies are over 90 minutes long, so portable projectors really need to aim higher. This isn’t just an XGIMI problem, as all other projector companies need to work to give longevity a bump. At the very least, XGIMI has released the PowerBase to give the MoGo 4 Laser a boost, though it comes at an additional cost.

Final Verdict
At $799, the XGIMI MoGo 4 Laser isn’t cheap, but it offers a lot for the price. Its triple-laser system makes movies and shows look great, whether at home or on the go. The compact size and smooth Google TV experience add to the appeal. Battery life and brightness won’t match higher-end projectors, but that’s expected in this category. For casual viewing, travel, or outdoor nights, it performs impressively well. Overall, it’s a portable projector that balances convenience and quality nicely.
