Baseus Security X1 Pro review

Baseus Security X1 Pro Outdoor Dual Camera Review

The Baseus Security X1 Pro makes a lot of promises with its dual 3K cameras, AI tracking, solar-powered charging, local recording storage, and zero subscription costs. It certainly sounds impressive on paper, selling itself as a real step-up from the aging cameras most of us are currently using, some of which have suckered us into monthly subscription costs. But how does the X1 Pro fare during real-world testing? Here is my review.

Two is better than one

The flagship feature is, of course, the dual-camera system. Each camera can work independently, tracking different subjects at the same time. For me, this means I can have both my front garden monitored by one camera and my driveway monitored by the other. In the past, I’ve had to either choose one or the other, or try to split the field of view between them to try and get a bit of each in the frame. That dual-camera system also solves those awkward corner walls, which would otherwise require two separate cameras to point either way.

As mentioned in the intro, each camera is 3K and so already pretty damn clear from resolution alone, but they also benefit from color night vision. As for spotting interesting targets, that’s where the dual PIR motion sensors come in. AI detection supports people, pets, and vehicles. There’s also two-way audio, which I found useful for talking to delivery drivers who needed to know where to leave a package while I was away from home.

Here comes the sun

Baseus Security X1 Pro review

Despite not having too much sun to test with, I’ve been impressed with the X1 Pro’s solar charging capabilities. Having the cameras work perpetually, with the user never needing to manually charge them, is a huge convenience. Also convenient is the support for SD cards up to 512 GB.

The X1 Pro’s biggest feature, its dual high-quality camera setup, is also its best. If you need to cover two spaces, particularly if they are at awkward angles, then this type of system makes a lot of sense.

Baseus Security X1 Pro review

Of course, great hardware is one thing, but terrible software can sometimes make a product impossible to put up with. For the most part, Baseus has done a good job with its app. Taking a look at recordings is fairly smooth, and it’s easy to tweak desired settings.

The downsides

Baseus Security X1 Pro review

I have two main gripes with the X1 Pro. First, its recognition of various faces seems hit or miss. Second, the motion detection can sometimes be a bit too delayed, leading to clips where the main action is missed. For example, on one of my recent recordings, I can see a delivery driver walking away from my drive. The recording failed to include him actually knocking on my door and leaving the parcel at the doorstep. I’d like to see it trigger more quickly.

Final Verdict

For $269.99 — though currently available for $179.99 with an SD card included — the Baseus Security X1 Pro is an interesting option that brings plenty to like, especially if its setup suits your space. It is not without flaws, but there is enough here to make it worth considering. If you need two cameras and/or a super-wide field of view, then the X1 Pro is well worth looking into.
