MVP MMA prepared for its first event on May 16 at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, with several major names scheduled to appear on the card. To celebrate the promotion’s launch, Jake Paul’s organization partnered with Capcom to create special merchandise inspired by Street Fighter characters.
According to a Dexerto report, the crossover reimagined the participating fighters as iconic figures from the gaming franchise. Rhonda Rousey appeared as Cammy, Gina Carano transformed into Chun-Li, Francis Ngannou took on Akuma’s look, and Philipe Lins received the Ryu treatment. Nate Diaz also entered the lineup as Sagat, while Mike Perry stepped into the role of Zangief.
While the collaboration generated excitement among fans, questions quickly surfaced over how the character pairings came together. It remained unclear whether the athletes selected their own Street Fighter counterparts or if Capcom handled the decisions internally.
Interestingly, several pairings did not exactly mirror the fighters’ real life styles. Zangief built his reputation around professional wrestling-inspired moves, while Ryu remained famous for karate-based combat. Despite the mismatch, the crossover leaned more into visual appeal and fan excitement than strict fighting accuracy.
Most of the featured characters used their Street Fighter 6 appearances for the merchandise collection, though Cammy and Sagat notably retained older designs.
The collaboration also marked another gaming connection for Rhonda Rousey. The former MMA star previously crossed into the gaming world after voicing Sonya Blade in Mortal Kombat 11.
The partnership came as Capcom continued to expand several of its established franchises beyond gaming. Street Fighter is set to receive a new film adaptation, while Resident Evil also remains part of the company’s broader push into entertainment projects.
The unusual crossover between MVP and Capcom proved that gaming and combat sports continued finding new ways to collide.
