Fortnite bringing a sneak peek of The Mandalorian and Grogu movie for fans
Fortnite is bringing fans inside the Star Wars universe with an exclusive sneak peek of The Mandalorian and Grogu, marking the latest expansion of Epic Games’ ongoing collaboration with Lucasfilm.
Starting Tuesday, the popular video game will screen 10 minutes of exclusive footage from The Mandalorian and Grogu. Then on May 26, director Jon Favreau will host a live Q&A in the island’s amphitheater.
In a preview last month, Favreau said that the Island places players and friends directly in Nevarro. He further noted that the film’s set design team collaborated closely on the project, recreating locations including Nevarro Main Street and the Imperial Safe House.
Speaking to Variety, Jon Favreau said, “On ‘The Mandalorian’, everything comes back to detail… materials, lighting, sound. They’re what make the world feel real. Our team at Fairview Portals brought those elements together with Lucasfilm and Epic in Fortnite to recreate the tone and texture of that world, inviting players to a new way to step into it.”
Teams of up to 12 can defend Nevarro as deputies, battling Imperial forces alongside IG-11 and classic Star Wars characters. Fans can also complete small quests with Grogu. Spending 20 minutes on the island unlocks the Mandalorian Sanctuary Loading Screen with exclusive film concept art. Adding to the hype, The Mandalorian Pen & Ink Outfit arrives in the Item Shop this Thursday.
The Mandalorian and Grogu Watch Party Island is Fortnite’s latest Star Wars activation. Last month, Epic opened Star Wars asset libraries in Unreal Editor for Fortnite and Fortnite Creative, giving developers the freedom to build with iconic characters, locations, vehicles, and weapons. Early results include Galactic Siege, Droid Tycoon, and Escape Vader, all created with the Star Wars x UEFN tools and now available for players to explore.
