Insiders fear that the GTA 6 release date could be pushed further. Grand Theft Auto VI is an upcoming action-adventure game developed and published by Rockstar Games. The studio originally planned to release it in May 2026 and then postponed it to November of this year. However, based on recent developments, it may not see the light of day before 2027.
Insider predicts GTA 6 could get delayed again
According to reputed video game journalist Jason Schreier of Bloomberg, Rockstar Games may not be able to live up to their November 19 commitment. Schreier discussed the status of the highly anticipated video game with Ben and Matt James in the latest episode of the Button Mash podcast.
Additionally, Schreier revealed that GTA 6 is still in the thick of development and far from ready. Not only that, neither Rockstar Games nor Take-Two Interactive is confident it will make this current release plan. He shared, “I don’t think anyone at Rockstar could tell you with 100% certainty.”
Schreier added, “The last I heard, it was still not content complete. People are still finishing things up, finalizing levels, missions, seeing what’s going to make it into the game.”
Moreover, Schreier alleged that “the entire stock of Take-Two lives or dies on this game.” Hence, Rockstar’s parent company would rather delay it to next year than release an unfinished and buggy end product. He stated, “The stakes are so high. They can’t settle for anything less than perfection. It’s not something they would release in any compromised state.”
The acclaimed journalist also pointed out that Take-Two’s fiscal year does not end until March 2027. This means that even if GTA 6 is delayed, Take-Two can still keep it within their planned fiscal year.
Gamers should note that this is merely speculation at this point. Neither Take-Two nor Rockstar Games has officially commented on the issue at the time of writing this article.
