How to Get Exotic Engrams in Destiny 2

Engrams in Destiny 2 are an important part of the game. If you want to pick up a ton of loot, you’re going to want to keep your eye out for them. They come in various different rarities, as discussed in our guide to how you can get Bright engrams. Exotic engrams are a world apart, and the rarest kind of gear you can find anywhere in Destiny 2. Fortunately, Bungie has made the decision to make it a little easier to get the Exotics and Exotic engrams, and here are several ways to obtain them.

How to Get Exotics in Destiny 2 By Playing Through the Story

Things haven’t changed too much when it comes to Exotics between the first Destiny and Destiny 2, but you won’t be able to fall back on outside things like the Three of Coins to rack them up. You’ll need to play through Destiny 2’s story instead if you really want to come out on top. There are, in fact, certain areas during the story as you play where you’ll actually be given the opportunity to pick your own Exotic.

It might be weapons or armor depending on where you actually are in the story thus far, and depending on the character you’re speaking to at the time. These won’t be parts of the game you can miss, so don’t worry about skipping over an important segment that could potentially net you an Exotic. You’ll be fine as long as you continue playing through the game.

How to Get Exotics in Destiny 2 by Earning Quest Items

This is another time where playing through the Destiny 2 story mode will come in handy. You’ll receive specific Quest items here and there during certain activities at random. You’ll have to place the Quest Item in your inventory, such as your Power slot.

When you finish up the Quest, your Quest item will then be transformed into an Exotic Power weapon, and so on. This is an important process to remember so you can collect as many Exotics as possible. It’s not exactly the easiest way to track what kinds of items you’ll get, but it’s a simple and foolproof way to collect Exotics at the very least.

How to Get Exotics in Destiny 2 by Purchasing From Xur

Xur is only in the world for a limited amount of time, but when he’s available, you can actually purchase Exotics from him. You just need to find him on a world and approach him since he won’t be located in the Tower any longer. He’ll have his wares on display for you to pick up there, and you can very easily add more Exotics to your collection.

It can be a bit of a pain, but you’ll be positively swimming in Exotics and Exotic engrams in no time, as long as you follow these pretty simple paths to obtaining more of them.
