N. Sane Trilogy: How To Play as Coco Bandicoot

If you’ve just picked up the N. Sane Trilogy on Switch or Xbox One or, heck, gave the marsupial another go around after installing the 1.06 patch, you’re probably going to want to dive into some of the remastered games’ secrets. This not being quite a 1:1 recreation, there are a few hidden tricks hidden up the sleeves of Vicarious Visions. Most impressively: the ability to play as Crash’s sister, Coco Bandicoot, in all three main titles. Here’s how to play as Coco herself, including a step-by-step method to unlocking her.

N. Sane Trilogy How To Play as Coco Bandicoot: Crash Bandicoot 1

Unlike the original release, you can play as Coco Bandicoot in the first Crash Bandicoot. To do so, you must first defeat Papu Papu, the opening boss of the game. Once that’s been achieved, you’ll be able to see a ‘level’ marker below the Papu Papu level. It’s a time machine where you’ll be able to switch to Coco on the fly with a press of the R2 button.

It is worth noting that there a handful of levels, including every hog riding level, where you can not play as Coco Bandicoot.

N. Sane Trilogy: How To Play as Coco Bandicoot: Crash Bandicoot 2

It’s a very similar method when it comes to Crash Bandicoot 2. To play as Coco, beat the first floor’s worth of levels, then beat the Ripper Roo boss. Head into the platform on the middle and go up to the second floor where you’ll see a time machine. Again, you can press R2 to switch between Coco and Crash.

While Coco has her own fair share of levels in the trilogy-topper, she can also be used straight from the start this time around, with no need to defeat any bosses or complete any levels. Simply approach her in the main hub room (by the save screen) and you’ll be given the ability to switch characters using, you guessed it, R2.
