Octopath Traveler is out today. The retro-inspired JRPG from Square Enix and the team behind Bravely Default and Bravely Second is one of the most anticipated Switch games of 2018. The visuals lovingly bring us back to the classic SNES JRPGs, with gameplay that’s similar in execution to all those fan-favorites of old. What fans want to know, however, is whether or not there is an Octopath Traveler new game plus. We share all the juicy details below.
The call for an Octopath Traveler new game plus makes perfect sense. At the game’s beginning, we are tasked with choosing a character to spend the rest of the game as. There are eight characters in all, and the choice is rather difficult. Each character comes with their own unique gameplay quirk and slightly altered story. Unsurprisingly, plenty of people are keen to play through Octopath as each traveler. It makes sense that people would want to play through the game again in new game plus as to not lose their experience and neat gear. Why wouldn’t it have a new game plus?
Octopath Traveler New Game Plus: Is There a New Game Plus?
Sadly, there isn’t a new game plus option in Octopath Traveler. While you can restart the game any number of times you wish, you will start right at the beginning again every time. You cannot carry over your experience points or gathered gear to new save files. While it is sad that there is no Octopath Travele new game plus, it isn’t the end of the world. There are always post-launch updates these days. Despite this, however, the game’s producer (Masashi Takashi) did announce that there will be no DLC for Octopath Traveler, implying that the newly released game is in its final form already.
Not to worry, there is plenty of content with or without a new game plus. If you have picked up Octopath Traveler today, you’ll be playing it long into the future.
