Forza Horizon 4 Xbox Live: Do I Need an Xbox Live Gold Account?

If, like me, you’re gearing up for a Forza Horizon 4 Xbox Live extravaganza with mates very soon, you can rest easy. But what if you don’t have an Xbox Live Gold Account? Things are inherently trickier, that’s for sure. Yet you needn’t worry: below, we’ll sort out everything you need to know about whether you need an Xbox Live Gold account to play Forza Horizon 4.

Forza Horizon 4 Xbox Live: Do I Need an Xbox Live Gold Account?

While you will need a standard (Silver) Xbox Live account to play Forza Horizon 4, you will not need a full Xbox Live Gold account to play the racing game. The (mostly) full Forza Horizon 4 experience can still be gained without a Gold account. Many features, such as downloading car designs, tuning settings, and using the Auction House are still able to be accessed despite having a Silver account.

Forza Horizon 4 Xbox Live: What’s Included With Gold Membership?

However, there are a handful of things that are exclusive to Xbox Live Gold accounts. Multiplayer races, for instance, are locked out for Silver members, as is the vaunted shared world experience. That means you won’t see other players driving around in the open world unless you have an Xbox Live Gold account. Additionally online leaderboards are tied into having a Gold Account.

Forza Horizon 4 Xbox Live: Can I Play on PC?

This is where it gets confusing. On PC, you will just need a Microsoft Account (sign up for one here if you’ve yet to do so) to play online multiplayer. You are offered much greater freedom; the shared world and online races is all included, even without paying for an additional Xbox Live Gold membership. If you have the choice of either Forza Horizon 4 on Xbox One or on PC, then the PC version would be your best bet, unless you want to shell out for an online membership.
