Finding a Box of Wondrous Secrets will net you 25,000 Gold, which is by far the most you can get for turning in a single chest. Since they’re so valuable, you’re going to have a hard time finding ones of these elusive chests, but there are some things you can do to maximize your chances.
Narrowing down the Box of Wondrous Secrets locations is the first step to finding one. These chests don’t spawn all over the map. Instead, they’re localized to the Devil’s Roar region, which you can find in the southeast part of the map.
This land of volcanic islands is fraught with danger. Falling rocks and steam vents abound here, and you’ll have to keep on your toes to make it out alive. The Box of Wondrous Secrets has a chance to spawn on any island in this region but doesn’t have a guaranteed spawn anywhere. So, to find this chest, you’ll have to put in some time and effort.
At this point, we don’t know of any method to increase your chances of finding this chest. As it spawns at random, you may find it the first time you search an island or the hundredth time. As such, it’s debatable whether the rewards are worth the effort.
If you do happen to find a Box of Wondrous Secrets in Sea of Thieves, you can take it to Captain Morrow at the Morrow’s Peak Outpost or Stitcher Jim on Liar’s Backbone. They’ll exchange the chest for 25,000 Gold. However, you don’t get any reputation boosts for turning in this chest.
