You may have run across a locked box or door in Red Dead Redemption 2. As an industrious cowboy, Arthur Morgan will gladly shoot the lock off to get to the content inside, but there is a better way. The Red Dead Redemption 2 lock breaker will allow you to break locks without shooting them.
The lock breaker in Red Dead Redemption 2 is helpful because it allows you to silently break locks. Using the lock breaker allows you to stealthily steal from unsuspecting folk, and won’t alert those around you.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Lock Breaker – Where to Find It
The lock breaker can be bought for around $25 from any Fence in the game. Players will encounter their first Fence during Chapter 2 “Horseshoe Overlook.” The first Fence in the game is found near Emerald Ranch in New Hanover, and is met during the mission “The Spines of America” with Hosea. This Fence will be unlocked upon finishing the mission. Another Fence can be found North of Rhodes in Lemoyne, a third at the Van Horn Trading Post in eastern New Hanover, and one last Fence in Saint Denis.
Every Fence sells the lock breaker, and as it is a breakable item you may need to buy more over the course of the game. If you are a bit short on cash, Fences will gladly buy stolen goods from you. Our guide for selling stolen goods can be found here.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Lock Breaker – What Can You Use It For?
The lock breaker is helpful in a few key situations. Firstly, it can be used to break locks on the back of stagecoaches. Stagecoaches are pretty easy robberies, and being able to loot their contents without alerting others is convenient. Of course, stagecoaches are often on the open road and murdering everybody is always an option.
Another key situation is opening locked doors. Some doors in Red Dead Redemption 2 are locked and can be opened with a lock breaker.
