Red Dead Redemption 2 Undead Nightmare 2 Mode

Red Dead Redemption 2 Undead Nightmare 2 Mode – Will There be One?

Red Dead Redemption 2 has only been out for five days, but some players have already completed it. We don’t know where they’ve got the time to do that either. Thoughts for those players have quickly turned to a Red Dead Redemption 2 Undead Nightmare 2 mode though. Will it be patched into the game, or will there never be a follow up to the original?

Red Dead Redemption 2 Undead Nightmare 2 Mode – What is it?

In the original game, Undead Nightmare was a standalone expansion pack that was released five months after Red Dead Redemption‘s official launch. Brought to the title in October 2010, Undead Nightmare added a zombie-themed single-player campaign that saw protagonist John Marston try and find a cure for his zombie-infected wife and son.

The mode was an alternate timeline to the events of Red Dead Redemption, but some players actually preferred this game mode to the classic campaign. It’s no wonder, then, that there have been calls for Undead Nightmare 2 to be made.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Undead Nightmare 2 Mode – Will We Get One?

There’s been no official word from Rockstar Games on whether they’ll make an Undead Nightmare 2 mode. At the moment it doesn’t look likely, despite players calling for its introduction some way down the line.

A thread over on the Red Dead Redemption subreddit posed the question, but the responses varied from “Hopefully” to “Don’t bet on it.” It would be interesting to see Rockstar make a mode where Arthur Morgan could take on the hordes of the dead though.

Of course, this doesn’t mean that Rockstar won’t have considered the idea, or have it held back for a future patch. The team are likely enjoying some rest after the game’s development and launch, and letting players take in the amazing world that they’ve created. We’ll have to wait and see if it’ll ever come to Red Dead Redemption 2.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Undead Nightmare 2 Mode – Hints for Undead Nightmare 2

Although a Red Dead Redemption 2 Undead Nightmare 2 Mode does seem relatively unlikely, recent hints for Undead Nightmare 2 have surfaced on Reddit. In particular, one Reddit post draws attention to some pretty interesting information concerning Armadillo.

Apparently, if you make your way over to Armadillo you’ll quickly realize that there aren’t a whole lot of people around. On top of that, the entire area is full of dead bodies. The town crier will exclaim that the area is plagued and all of the people left in the town will urge you to leave immediately and to get as far away as possible. This could be a hint for Undead Nightmare 2, or it could be providing an explanation for the original Undead Nightmare.

While the latter seems perfectly reasonable, there are more hints in Red Dead Redemption 2 that point to an Undead Nightmare sequel. For instance, in the Armadillo general store the player can see a green mask that resembles the mask from Red Dead Redemption Undead Nightmare. On top of this, newspaper clippings contain reports of a bubonic plague, which could tie in nicely with the idea of an infection. Of course, while it has some historical bearing, Rockstar has to know that would set tongues wagging.

In fact, a different Reddit post drew attention to a shed that the player can encounter which has the words “Stay out plague” painted on the front of it. The shed is barricaded from the outside and strange sounds can be heard from inside. It could be the case that the people inside are the ones who are plagued.

Although all of the above seem like minor hints on their own, tying them altogether makes the picture a whole lot bigger. If Rockstar isn’t trying to provide lore for why Undead Nightmare happened in Red Dead Redemption 2, then it seems pretty likely Arthur Morgan will be venturing out to slay hordes of zombies in the near future.
