The Division 2 gear sets will grant you certain bonuses if you manage to collect all of the right pieces for them. You may also be wondering what loot tiers are, if there’s exotic gear available, and the bonuses they give you. Learn everything about The Division 2 gear sets with our in-depth guide.
The Division 2 Gear Sets | What are they?
The Division 2 gear sets work in the same way that sets did in the first game. Players could find all of the pieces of gear in The Division to complete a set, so there’s no change here.
Gear sets are the highest quality of gear you can obtain in Ubisoft’s RPG shooter too. If you want to be the best agent there’s ever been, you’ll want to keep your eyes open for special gear that, when pieced together, will boost you in ways you couldn’t imagine.
They are made up of six individual gear pieces that, when equipped together, grant you special and high-grade talents. They are colored differently to other items in the game, do not possess gear brands — which we covered in this guide — and do not adhere to the same quality rules that other items do.
Gear sets can be found in the game’s world as loot and rewards for completing missions, liberating areas, and other activities. Specific tasks will also grant you a randomized gear set as a reward, so who knows what you’ll get for successfully doing these.
The Division 2 Gear Sets | Loot rarity tiers
There are six different Division 2 loot tiers in the game at launch. This sextet is known as worn, standard, specialized, superior, high-end, and gear sets. As you would expect, worn gear is the least valuable and doesn’t offer much in the way of bonuses and perks. The higher up the tiers you go, however, the rarer they are and more powerful the loot will be.
As we mentioned earlier, each loot tier corresponds to a different color in-game. Worn items are gray, standard items are shown as green, specialized have a blue hue, superior items are purple, and high-end will be shown as orange. There isn’t a specific color for gear sets as, well, there doesn’t need to be as sets are individual items per se.
These loot tiers correspond to all types of gear, including the weapons you will use. Your firearms have these specific tiers attached to them, so you’ll know which are worth keeping, deconstructing for crafting materials, and which to chuck away or donate to your settlements.
The Division 2 Gear Sets | Bonuses and availability
The Division 2 gear sets aren’t just for show, as we’ve mentioned. Complete a specific set of them and you’ll be granted with a certain perk. These bonuses can range from increasing the amount of damage your weapons do, how much more power your skills will have, the amount of health you can regenerate, and more.
Ubisoft hasn’t stated what these bonuses are exactly, so it’s up to us as players to find out what they are. We wouldn’t want to have every secret given away before launch day, would we?
As for when the gear sets are available, they’ll be part of the game as soon as it’s released for everyone on March 15. Gear sets will be the most powerful items in the game until exotic gear is patched in later this year. Make the most of them while you can, and then replace them with exotic gear down the line.
The Division 2 Gear Sets | Exotic gear
Exotic gear will be the most sought-after Division 2 gear sets. These are unique weapons, gear, and other items that are connected to the game’s lore, and give you an idea of how it came to be in The Division 2‘s world. Exotic gear can only be acquired if you complete specific tasks. These are unlocked as you press on in your mission to take back control of Washington D.C and the surrounding area.
When you finally get your hands on exotic weapons and gear, you’ll have a choice on your hands. Ubisoft will limit you to only one equipped weapon and one equipped piece of gear, from your exotics collection, at any one time. This is to stop some players being too overpowered, particularly in the Conflict PvP mode that’s available.
You will be able to upgrade your exotic gear, just like ordinary items, once you have them. You will need to buy the correct exotic blueprint from vendors to do so, however, as well as some exotic crafting material. You can get the latter from deconstructing exotic gear that you don’t need, so you will have to choose wisely before deciding on what you want to keep and upgrade.
Ubisoft and Massive Entertainament are said to have put a lot of time and effort into determining how these exotic weapons will act, so they should be worth the wait once they’re patched into the game.
The Division 2 Gear Sets | Exotics availability
At the moment, there shouldn’t be any exotics in the game. Exotic gear won’t be available at launch, but will turn up in The Division 2 loot tiers list as a seventh option sometime after the game’s release.
Posting about the inclusion of exotic gear on the Ubisoft forums in September 2018, community manager UbiAmper revealed when we could expect them. They wrote that exotic gear will have their own special look and be clearly distinguishable from other items in the game.
However, there has been some confusion over this since the game was launched worldwide. Plenty of players on The Division Reddit page have claimed that they have found exotic weapons already by completing some set challenges.
One user, who goes by the name LeonWantsGold on Reddit, revealed how you could get your hands on the game’s exotic pistol. Another — 47568607F62707 — stated that the exotic rifle wasn’t as good as they anticipated. Finally, Reddit user joelday claimed that they only needed one more exotic weapon to complete their set.
You might think that these players have made a mistake, and thought the high-end gear was, in fact, exotic. However, an image in the exotic pistol Reddit thread shows that it has an orange background. As we mentioned earlier, this should just be reserved for high-end gear, and goes against everything that Ubisoft mentioned about exotic gear being patched in down the line.
The Division 2 Gear Sets | Why is exotic gear available already?
We’re not sure. Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment have been quiet on this so far. They are more concerned with sorting out any major bugs, glitches, and errors now that everyone has their hands on the game, and patching through fixes for big issues.
It could be that it’s only exotic weapons that are part of the game so far. We haven’t seen anything to suggest that other exotic gear is present, so it may be that this is what will get patched in later on in the year. That would be our best guess, and we suspect that’s what Ubisoft means when it talks about The Division 2 gear sets.
For now, just enjoy the fact that exotic weapons are present in the game. Exotic gear sets will join them at some point later in 2019.
