Hunting for a Gears of War 6 release date this early can only mean one thing: you’ve completed Gears 5 and are looking to learn what happens next. With the game ending how it ended (no spoilers here), then a sequel really is required to answer all of the remaining questions that players will have. Here’s what we know about a potential Gears 6.
When is the Gears of War 6 release date?
If you have completed Gears 5, you’ll still have questions that need answering, meaning that a sequel is almost definitely planned by developer The Coalition. While the Gears 5 campaign ended in a satisfying-enough way, there were many plot points that remained unresolved, providing a convenient starting point for a potential sequel.
The original Gears of War trilogy focused on Marcus Fenix and his squad, while Gears of War 4 and Gears 5 shifted the story on to the next generation of soldiers. It would make sense for Gears of War 6 to conclude the story of that new generation, finally wiping out the enemy threat.
Of course, if you’ve played through the entirety of Gears 5, you’ll know that there’s a decision that must be made. While I won’t go into details here, as it’s a blatant spoiler, your decision decides who lives and who dies. It will be interesting to see whether a sequel carries this decision through, recognizing the player’s game save, or if The Coalition (or whichever developer ultimately creates the new Gears game) chooses its own canon version.
It usually takes around two or three years for a new Gears of War game to come out. That would put a Gears 6 release date at an estimated 2021 or 2022. Of course, a range of factors can affect a game’s release date, including the launch of a new console. The new Xbox Scarlett system is set to release next year. It’s highly probable that the next time we see a new Gears of War game, it will be playable on the next Xbox.
