Activision and Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) was patched to version 1.08 on November 12, introducing a host of new improvements to the military shooter. For a majority of players, anyway. Is your Modern Warfare update stuck and preventing you from playing online? If so, then you’re already in the right place to find out how to remedy this annoying issue.
How to fix the Modern Warfare stuck update glitch
Modern Warfare and its updates are available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, but the frozen download issue seems to be affecting players on PC. The latest Call of Duty title is only available via Blizzard’s Battle.net service on the platform, which may be leading to some users encountering problems when it comes to downloading game updates.
After prompting the update to download — which should weigh in at around 3.415 GB in total — some players are reporting that the patch will then completely stall before completion with around 607 MB of the download remaining. Other figures have been reported, though regardless of the remaining file size, everyone’s placed in the same boat when they can no longer access the multiplayer component of Modern Warfare as a result.
Potential fixes such as restarting the Battle.net launcher and attempting to repair the game files have yielded no results for many. Some have found success through pursuing other methods, however.
Potential fixes are as follows:
- Pause the update and restart your PC
- Pause the update, change your Battle.net region and resume the update
- Pause the update, change your location through the use of a VPN and resume the update
- Delete the game completely and perform a full reinstall
We’d recommend trying them in that order for maximum convenience, with a full reinstall being the last resort due to the long wait that you’ll need to endure.
