The release date for the next Destiny 2 expansion, Beyond Light, was announced in today’s stream. Beyond Light will take players to Europa to battle a new enemy hinted at in Destiny lore, Eramis, the Shipstealer. The expansion will also mark our first look at an activated Darkness ship and segue into the events that will shape Destiny over the next few years.
When is the Destiny 2 Beyond Light release date?
Destiny 2 Beyond Light will release on September 22, 2020. This release date covers all platforms, PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Stadia, so no one will get left behind. The new expansion is available for pre-order right now, and you’ll get several bonuses for buying early.
What is Destiny 2 Beyond Light about?
Destiny 2 Beyond Light will introduce Europa, a former human colony and birthplace of the Exos. We know that we’ll be facing off against Eramis, a Fallen Baroness who escaped from the Prison of Elders during the events of Destiny 2 Forsaken. The reveal trailer for the expansion shows Eris Morn, The Drifter, and the Exo Stranger, meeting on Europa. These three mysterious characters are there to observe an activated Darkness ship, one which presumably has been taken over by Eramis.
One of the big reveals of Beyond Light will be the reveal of the nature of Light and Darkness. As part of this, the player will gain the ability to wield the first new type of damage to be introduced to Destiny since the original’s release: Stasis. Stasis seems to be used by drawing on Darkness, as opposed to the Light of the Traveler and will join Arc, Solar, and Void as a new element.
During the stream, the names of the next two Destiny 2 expansions were revealed as well. The Witch Queen and Lightfall will release in 2021 and 2022, respectively.
It’s an exciting time to be a Destiny fan, and Bungie seems committed to the game for the foreseeable future. We’ll see more of Beyond Light as the clock ticks closer to September.
