The Last of Us 2 coin locations are going to be hard to pin down. These quarters are so small and there are so many — 32 in fact — scattered around a few of the levels. Getting all of them will get you the Numismatist trophy. A numismatist is someone who studies coins or similar objects. And that will be you once you get them all. Here’s how to find all of the TLOU2 coins. Just be warned that there are heavy spoilers here so don’t read until you’ve completed the Seattle Day 3 chapter.
The Last of Us 2 Coin Locations | The Park | Tracking Lesson | Virginia
The very first coin in the game is unmissable and in the section in the zoo-like park where you play as Abby. It’s on a dumpster that you have to interact with to move on.
The Last of Us 2 Coin Locations | Seattle Day 1 | The Stadium | Alaska
The first coin in the stadium is right after Mel joins you. After exiting the suite that Abby is staying in and going down a couple stairs, you’ll see the above vista of the football stadium.
Immediately turn left after seeing that vista and you’ll find the Alaska coin on the ground.

The second coin is also right after Mel joins up with you and just after the previous coin. Go down the stairs (but not all the way down to ground level) until you eventually get near a bunch of people washing clothes. This is the area just above the dog cages.

After playing with the dogs, you will eventually go into a hallway with a person at a desk and a mural on the side like in the above picture.
The New Jersey coin is just after that desk on the right side near the mural.

The last stadium coin is just after getting your gun. Go into the room in the above picture with the jeep and go to the left side.
You’ll see the Vermont coin in a locker on that side in the corner. You should get the Mint Condition trophy here.
The Last of Us 2 Coin Locations | Seattle Day 1 | On Foot | Kentucky
After escaping in the truck from the Seraphites and going into the hardware store, immediately go to the right side of the room. Within the darkness, you’ll see the above table with the Kentucky coin on it.
The Last of Us 2 Coin Locations | Seattle Day 1 | On Foot | Massachusetts
After fighting a ton of Infected (including a Shambler), you and your team will open a gate together.
Once you get into that area, you’ll see a few registers. Go to the farthest one as shown in the picture.
The Massachusetts coin is on that farthest register.
The Last of Us 2 Coin Locations | Seattle Day 1 | On Foot | Indiana
When you meet back up with Manny and the dog after the boat warehouse, Mel and Abby will be dropped into an area just before having to drop down yet again into a train yard. Don’t do that just yet! Instead explore that area. You’ll see a rectangular building but with no unlocked doors.
That’s fine. Just grab a brick and break a window to jump inside like in the above picture.
Go inside the building and you will see the Indiana coin on a desk.
The Last of Us 2 Coin Locations | Seattle Day 1 | On Foot | Ohio
The Ohio coin is very tricky. Eventually, you’ll have to turn a big crank and it’ll break. You’ll have to boost Mel up and she will open a door for you. Go through there, pick up the ladder, and then lay it down so you can use it as a bridge to get onto the boat like in the above picture. But don’t do it!
Turn around and lay that ladder upright so you can climb the building behind you.
The Ohio coin is up there on a table.

When you get back to base, you’ll see a group of people talking in the first area you step off into. Go over behind them.
The California coin is on the ledge above those people.
The Last of Us 2 Coin Locations | Seattle Day 1 | The Forward Base | New Mexico
After going through the first checkpoint gate back at base, you’ll see a crowd of people by some porta potties like you see in the above picture. Go over there.
The New Mexico coin is behind those people on a green crate.

After talking to a man to get into a building in the base, you will see the people in the above picture on a table. Go over to them.
The South Carolina coin will be on a table right next to them.
The Last of Us 2 Coin Locations | Seattle Day 1 | Hostile Territory | North Dakota
After you split from Manny, you will eventually climb on top of a car to climb on top of a white RV to climb inside of the window in the above picture. Yes, there’s a lot climbing.
There is a dresser immediately inside that room past the door on the right. Open up one of the drawers and the North Dakota coin will be in there.
The Last of Us 2 Coin Locations | Seattle Day 1 | The Coast | Alabama
After fighting a bunch of Infected, you have to climb up some broken highway.
There are a few steps to climb up and eventually you will walk up the ramp in the above picture.
Keep going straight up that ramp and in that same direction (don’t turn around and go down the critical path yet) and you’ll see a car and a corpse. The Alabama coin is by that corpse.

After getting the crossbow on the ferry, go up the stairs to the right like in the above picture.
Then go down a green hallway on your right like in the above picture.
At the end of the green hallway, turn right and you’ll see some luggage in the distance.
The XXX coin is on the brown suitcase in that luggage pile.
The Last of Us 2 Coin Locations | Seattle Day 1 | The Coast | Utah
Once you clear out the Infected on the ferry, you will have to shove through a door with the Triangle button. You will then have to climb a ladder like you see in the picture.
When you get to the top of the ladder, turn around and you’ll see that structure in the above picture instead of jumping off the boat continuing the story. Stay on the boat and go toward the above structure.
The Utah coin is behind that structure on the boat.
The Last of Us 2 Coin Locations | Seattle Day 1 | The Coast | Mississippi
After jumping off the boat, you’ll make your way to aquarium. When you get to the entrance and the above vista, you’ll see a fountain with a whale on top. Go to that fountain.
Jump in the fountain and grab the Mississippi coin. Someone probably wished upon that coin and you ruined it. Hopefully, that wish wasn’t for a cordyceps cure.
The Last of Us 2 Coin Locations | Seattle Day 2 | The Shortcut | Nevada
A little bit into the level, you’ll make your way into a courtyard covered in water and get a “L3 Look-At” prompt to see the above tower. From there, go to the right.
And on the right, you will see the above barber shop. Go inside of it.
The Nevada coin will be behind the register. You can keep the change.
The Last of Us 2 Coin Locations | Seattle Day 2 | The Shortcut | Colorado
You’ll eventually have climb over a rusted mail truck (or something that looks like one) that has crashed through a wall. This will then lead you to an area where you have to jump to platforms above the water like in the above picture. Go into the building on the left with a poster for a phone provider on the front. Go through that building, progress forward, and jump to some rocks in the water.
Once you do that simple bit of platforming, you will have to climb to the store in the above picture.
Once you mantle up there, immediately turn right and go through the window that the arrow is pointing to.
You’ll drop onto an awning and see the Colorado coin at the end.

When you finally get into the hotel, you will be by a pool. Jump in it.
Swim to the bottom of the deep end like you never could in sixth grade. The Illinois coin will be in the drain.

This one is tricky to find since it is so dark in this hotel so some of these screen shots will have the high contrast mode on (which is helpful for this section). After getting the mask for Lev and you climb down and you sidle across a high ledge, an enemy will shortly jump out of a wall and attack you.
Continue on until you have to sprint jump down one level. You then either have to walk across a narrow beam or jump across a ledge with a sneaky Clicker on the other side. Now continue until you get to the above hallway. It’s pretty dark, but there are two doors there: one in front that leads down and one on the right that leads to a bathroom. Go through the door in front of you and drop down a level.
Once you drop down, turn around and you will get to a room with two Clickers. Kill them or sneak past. You will have to drop down again by that other Clicker on the left in the picture.
Once you do drop down, cross that beam in front of you.
Then turn right and cross that other beam.
Once you continue forward a little more, you’ll have to make a jump to the platform below you, as you can see in that above picture. Jump down.
And once you jump down, immediately turn around. There’s another room there. Jump to that room.
The Oregon quarter will be on the right side of the room on a thing sticking out of the wall.
The Last of Us 2 Coin Locations | Seattle Day 2 | The Descent | Wisconsin
This one is easy but also easy to miss. You’ll come across a Bloater in the hotel. Once you open the door and get past that, you have to jump down the elevator. Once you get out of the elevator shaft, don’t go forward but turn left like you see in the above picture. There is a vending machine. Go examine it.
The Wisconsin coin should be there (you may have to break the glass with a melee attack first).

After the Bloater fight, you’ll eventually get out of the hotel and go outside. You’ll be at the outside bar like in the above picture. Go to the bar with the red arrow pointing to you.
When you go behind the bar, check one of the corners of the bar. You’ll see the Rhode Island coin there.
The Last of Us 2 Coin Locations | Seattle Day 2 | The Descent | Missouri
This next coin is in the hospital area but not actually inside of the hospital. The easiest way to point out this coin is to say that it is near the door where Ellie enters the area when you’re playing as her in the earlier parts of the game. To get there, go to the ambulance vehicle right near the gate.
Now go into the hallway to the left of the ambulance vehicle, as shown in the picture.
The Missouri coin is on the ground in the back of the hall.
The Last of Us 2 Coin Locations | Seattle Day 2 | Ground Zero | Washington
After Nora frees you, you will make your way down to a lobby area with a cafe as shown in the above picture. Go to the cafe that the red arrow is pointing to.
Once at that cafe, go behind the counter and go to the register for the Washington coin.

After you kill that big ol’ monster, you’ll eventually have to open up a garage door by holding the Triangle button. Once you do that, you’ll be greeted with the above view. Go left.
And once you go left, you’ll see a toll booth.
Smash it and the Hawaii coin with be there ready for you to grab.
The Last of Us 2 Coin Locations | Seattle Day 3 | The Marina | Kansas
The first coin in this level is right at the start. Right when you gain control, turn around and hop up the steps and then jump over the small fence. The Kansas coin is on the ground there.

The next coin is right before the train in the beginning of the level. But before you go inside the train, go to the right on the ground level where the red arrow is pointing.
The Louisiana coin will be on the ground near a tire.
The Last of Us 2 Coin Locations | Seattle Day 3 | The Island | Idaho
Once you get to the island, you’ll eventually have to climb the ladder in the above picture.
Once you get to the top, go into the back of the open truck on the left that the red arrow is pointing to.
The Idaho coin is in the back of the truck on the floor.
The Last of Us 2 Coin Locations | Seattle Day 3 | The Island | North Carolina
As you progress through the level, you’ll get to the vista in the above shot. Shortly after, you’ll have to hop a short fence to continue.
After hopping that fence, you’ll come across a car by a tree, as shown by the red arrow in the picture. Go to it.
The North Carolina coin is on the ground near the car.
The Last of Us 2 Coin Locations | Seattle Day 3 | The Island | Montana
You’ll eventually have to push a cart to climb to an opening. You’ll eventually be greeted to the above cutscene. Thankfully, it gives you a preview of the building you need to enter. When the fight is done, find the building that the red arrow is pointing to in the above picture.
There will be a ladder around the back of that building. Climb it.
And once you do climb that ladder, you’ll find the Montana coin at the back of the attic on a box.
The Last of Us 2 Coin Locations | Seattle Day 3 | The Escape | Arkansas
The final coin is after you find Lev again. Once you’re all together, you’ll have to crouch to get into the window in the above picture.
Continue through that and go ahead until you have to squeeze through a door to get back outside which is where you’ll see a big truck with red text on it. Go left just as you exit the door to where the red arrow is pointing.
Once you turn left, you’ll see that the Arkansas coin is on the ground near a shopping cart. This should earn you your Numismatist trophy.
