How to kick players off your island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons online

Wondering how to kick online players off your island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons? If you’ve encountered an annoying ACNH troublemaker during online play, it’s understandable that you’d want them gone. Stick around as we detail how to kick online players in Animal Crossing Nintendo Switch.

Can you kick players in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?

How to kick players off your island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons online

Animal Crossing: New Horizons allows you to kick players and end your online session. This will allow you to prevent trolls from ruining your fun, and conclude your online play session in case any rogue player has decided to wreck your island.

However, there are a few caveats with this system that will prevent you from being able to kick exactly who you want.

Can you kick individual players in Animal Crossing: New Horizons?

When playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons online, unfortunately, there’s no way to kick a specific individual. Should one player behave like a troll, then your only option is to kick everyone by ending the multiplayer session. In order to do so, press the minus button on your Nintendo Switch controller and then opt to end the session.

Reporting and/or unfriending a player won’t remove them from the game session if they’re already on your island. It’ll prevent them from coming back in the future, but at that moment, the only way to get rid of them is by pulling the plug on your online multiplayer instance. Although it’s an inconvenience, you can then invite any players that were behaving themselves back and explain the situation.

In order to avoid trouble, we’d recommend only inviting players that you trust to visit your island online. Not being able to kick individuals seems like a bit of an oversight from Nintendo; hopefully, we might see the feature added in a future patch. Nintendo releases regular updates, like the recent 1.3.1 patch that fixed numerous issues.

How to kick online players in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

You can kick all online players in Animal Crossing: New Horizons by doing the following:

  1. As the host, press the minus button.
  2. Choose to end the multiplayer session.
  3. This will boot all visiting players back to their own islands.
  4. Feel free to extend a return invitation to any players that were behaving themselves.

If you’re looking to kick local Animal Crossing: New Horizons players from your island, this can be done by pressing the minus button at the title screen to access your game settings. Do note that local players will lose their game progress if you do this, however. Kicked online players are merely returned to their own islands by comparison.
