The upgrade system in all Souls games often proves confusing to new players, and Dark Souls II tweaks the system yet again with new shard requirements and upgrade stones. Listed below are all upgrade materials, where to find them, and what effects they have on equipment.

Titanite Shard (reinforce standard equipment to +3)

Dark Souls II introduces an infusion mechanic, in which the following stones can be applied to equipment in order to change its properties. First the player must find the Dull Ember (in Iron Keep) and give it to Steady Hand McDuff.



Bleed Stone (Add bleed effect, reducing physical damage/scaling)
