If you’ve just booted up your Xbox One with the hopes of diving into some good old games, you may have been rudely interrupted by the “How we use your data” message. Upon hitting “Continue,” users can then choose whether to opt in or opt out. If you’re confused, here’s what you need to know.
Should you opt in to the Xbox One “How we use your data” message?
Should I opt in?
We’d advise first clicking the “Tell me more” button to learn what exactly you will be sharing with Microsoft. After reading it, if you trust Microsoft, you can make the choice to “Opt in.”
Microsoft says that opting in will help with troubleshooting issues on the platform. This could help with future updates that make Xbox consoles more stable.
Should I opt out?
If you are not happy with the information that Microsoft wants access to, or you just generally tend to limit the info you share, you may want to select “Opt out.”
Whichever option you choose, you’ll still be able to continue as normal. You can opt in or opt out and then carry on playing games.
If you feel that you made the wrong choice, it is possible to change your privacy settings later. So if you opt in when you want to opt out, or vice versa, you can easily change that. Just head to the Settings menu and then Privacy on the Xbox home screen.
