The PlayStation 5 is optimized for high frame rate gaming. As such, anyone with a 120hz or higher display will be able to enjoy PlayStation 5 games running at 120fps. However, not every game will support higher frame rates, and only a few developers have confirmed support in their upcoming releases. Here’s a look at the list of 120fps PlayStation 5 games revealed so far.
Every PlayStation 5 Game with 120fps Support
While the PS5 will be able to run games at high frame rates, not every game will support full 120fps gameplay. So far, only five 120fps PS5 games have been confirmed:
- Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
- Dirt 5
- Devil May Cry 5 (PS5 Special Edition)
- Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom
- Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege
Of course, to actually take advantage of the system’s capabilities, you’ll need a display with high refresh rate support. Unfortunately, the few true 120hz televisions on the market are fairly expensive to buy. This is especially true for 4K televisions with high refresh rate options.
PC players will probably consider hooking the PS5 up to their PC displays, as 120hz and 144hz monitors have become commonplace in the last few years. They’re much more affordable than high-end televisions, though they’re admittedly much smaller in size.
Like with the PlayStation 4 Pro, it’s expected for PS5 games to include options to change running frame rates. Performance modes typically scale down the graphics to hit a smooth frame rate, while extended resolution modes slow down the frame rate to improve visual fidelity. Sony’s latest console will be able to push up to 4K visuals, though not at 120 frames per second.
While there are only a handful of 120fps PS5 games confirmed so far, more will surely be announced. We’ll be sure to update this list as we creep ever closer to the PlayStation 5 release date on November 12, 2020.
