Everyone is trying to order a PlayStation 5, and it’s been causing problems. Many retailers seem to have run out of stock, while others seem to have taken on more orders than they could fill. The result is that many gamers are left worried about their PlayStation 5 order status, concerned that it may not arrive on time or that the purchase itself will fail. This is a time when vigilance will be rewarded. Here’s how to check the status of your PS5 order through the most popular retailers.
How to Check Your PS5 Order Status
We already know that stocks of PS5 are limited, and purchase seems to be on a first-come, first-served basis. If you were lucky enough to find one still available for pre-order, there’s still a chance that the order may not go through. Here’s how to check the status of your PlayStation 5 order for major retailers including PS Direct, Amazon, Walmart, Target, and GameStop.
PlayStation Direct
Head to the PlayStation Direct website. Fair warning, you may be direct to wait in an online queue. Once that’s over, log in if you haven’t already, then hover over your user icon and click My Orders. From there you can check the status of your PS5 order.
The PlayStation Direct store uses FedEx for shipping. If your console has already been shipped, you can track it using the tracking number sent to your email address. Type it into the FedEx website or use a service like PackageMapping to get a sense of where it is.
Amazon
Log in to the Amazon website, then look to the right of the search bar for a button labeled Returns and Orders. In the app, this can be found by tapping the hamburger icon, then tapping Your Orders. Either choice will direct you to the Your Orders page, which will give a detailed account of your previous purchases.
On the web, the order status will be shown just above the product image. In the app, you’ll have to tap on the product listing first. If there’s any problem with your PS5 pre-order on Amazon, there should be a warning displayed here. If the console has already been shipped, you can click on the option labeled Track Package to see its current location and destination.
Walmart
Visit the Walmart website. If you reach an error page, keep refreshing until the main site loads. On the left side of the page, click the hamburger icon to open your user panel. From there, click the top option labeled Track Orders. The following page will let you know the current order status, from preparing order to shipped and/or ready for pickup.
Target
Head to the Target website and sign in, or alternatively load up the Target app. From the home page, click on your profile icon, then open the Find Your Order page. App users need to look for Purchases. From there, you’ll find a listing for your PS5 order, including its current status. You can also use Track Status to see its shipping details.
GameStop
Open the GameStop website. Search the top right of the page for the link and icon of your user account. Click on it, then click on Order History. This page will give an overview of your previous orders. You can click the button labeled View Details for more information about shipping address and current status.
Pre-orders for PlayStation 5 have been a mess. Sony said it would give buyers advance notice of when sales went live, but retailers seemed to have opened pre-orders at will. Most seem to have sold out within minutes. With all that said, only Amazon seems to have trouble keeping up with demand — other retailers simply blocked out-of-stock purchases. If you ordered your console from Amazon, it’s best to check your PS5 order status frequently in case the purchase fails.
