Leading up to the game’s launch, Nintendo detailed seven playable characters in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. Given that it is a Musou game, though, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that there are many more hidden playable characters in the game. It may be set 100 years before Breath of the Wild, but a lot of its characters will be familiar to fans of the mainline Zelda title. Spoilers for Age of Calamity follow, understandably.

So, to answer “how many Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity playable characters are there?” At launch, there are 18 playable characters in the game. Different characters have different play-styles, too. Link can use a One-Handed Weapon and Shield, Two-Handed Weapon, and a Spear. Zelda, too, can use the Sheikah Slate and Sealing Magic. What’s more, during some sections, players will be controlling different Divine Beasts.

Thanks to potential future DLC, the playable character list could be expanded. 18 playable characters, plus different weapon forms and the Divine Beasts is simply what’s available at launch. Time will tell if more Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity playable characters will be added to the game or not.
