Escape from Tarkov | What does a purple name mean?

The world of Escape from Tarkov is constantly evolving. And though most major changes are introduced in updates or patches, other tweaks sometimes manage to slip by unnoticed. The latter may be the case for those who have recently stumbled across a player with a purple name. These individuals are unique, but why? What does a purple name mean?

What does a purple name mean in Escape from Tarkov?

A purple name in Escape from Tarkov is given to each of the game’s emissaries. Every emissary has been chosen to represent both Battlestate Games and the community from their region. Emissaries are granted both a purple name and a globe icon to showcase their status among the player base.

Emissaries are becoming a more common sight in Escape from Tarkov, and for good reason. After speaking directly to the community, Battlestate Games chooses a select few users to help the developers connect with the players. The goal is to get more at least two emissaries for each region, and interested players can apply to become an emissary on the official Escape from Tarkov forums.

A few requirements need to be met, of course. Emissaries must stay active within the community, and are encouraged to help other players interact with one another. They may also be tasked with translating news into their language and acting as a representative with games media. All of this work will be especially useful when the next wipe rolls around.

Emissaries aren’t the only Escape from Tarkov players with unique name colors, either. A blue name represents a BattleState Games team member, perhaps even one of the developers. They’re the people responsible for making everything work. Green names, on the other hand, are sherpas. They’re players who stick around and help teach newbies how the game works. Finally, yellow names represent administrators.

Basically, a player with a purple name in Escape from Tarkov is an emissary who represents your region. They help foster engagement within the local community and assist the developers on a voluntary basis. It’s their job to help make the game better.
