Injustice 3 release date: When is the next Injustice coming out?

Fans of Injustice have been eagerly awaiting the next installment of NetherRealm Studios’ DC Universe brawler. The series’ second iteration released over four years ago, and since then, the developers have been pouring all their effort into Mortal Kombat 11. However, MK11 has now reached the end of its development cycle. As such, players are ready to hear more about the Injustice 3 release date — or learn any news about when the next installment will arrive.

When is Injustice 3 coming out?

For now, there’s no word on when Injustice 3 is coming out. In fact, NetherRealm hasn’t mentioned anything about starting work on a new game in the series. As such, there’s no release date in sight — we don’t even know if Injustice 3 is in development.

Thankfully, we do know that NetherRealm Studios is finally done with Mortal Kombat 11. In a tweet posted on July 2, 2021, the studio announced that no more DLC would be coming to MK11. Instead, the studio said it was shifting its attention to “its next project.”

Of course, what this new project might be is currently unknown. Fans of the first Injustice want Injustice 3, of course, but others believe NetherRealm may try to jump into the Marvel universe instead. This idea was borne after MK creator Ed Boon showed appreciation for James Gunn’s work in both DC and Marvel fandoms. The idea of NetherRealm working alongside Marvel spread wide, even catching the eyes of Geoff Keighley:

After that, Boon and NetherRealm released a series of tweets showcasing an upcoming Marvel vs Mortal Kombat game. Many of the tweets are clearly tongue-in-cheek, but if NetherRealm goes with Marvel, the project likely won’t involve DC.

To reiterate, it seems no one outside of NetherRealm knows what the studio’s next project is. Otherwise, based on their calendar of past releases, Injustice 3 would be studio’s the next game to come out soon. However, it’s possible that NetherRealms may be looking into a new project that doesn’t have anything to do with Injustice — or even any of their past licensed properties, for that matter.
