The Suicide Squad does Peacemaker die

The Suicide Squad (2021): Does Peacemaker die?

Does Peacemaker die in the latest DC Comics movie The Suicide Squad? It seems unlikely that John Cena’s Peacemaker would die in Suicide Squad 2 given that there is a spin-off Peacemaker HBO Max series launching next year, but maybe that’s a prequel show? Could there be a The Suicide Squad Peacemaker death scene or could John Cena return in a sequel as well as his own show? Spoilers for the movie follow!

Does Peacemaker die in The Suicide Squad?

The Suicide Squad does Peacemaker die

Christopher Smith a.k.a. Peacemaker (John Cena) does not die in The Suicide Squad and is alive at the end of the movie. Given that there is a Peacemaker HBO Max series coming next year this shouldn’t be too much of a surprise, but as the show was positioned as either an origin story or a prequel series the movie could easily have killed him off — but it turns out the Peacemaker show will be a sequel to The Suicide Squad, too.

Nevertheless, it’s still a surprise to see that Peacemaker is alive, as he is shot and seemingly killed by Bloodsport (Idris Elba). However, the movie’s post-credits scene reveals that he barely survived this, not to mention Starro the Conqueror rampaging around the city. This scene then sets up the Peacemaker show, which also features John Economos (Steve Agee) and Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland), who meet at the hospital after having staged a minor rebellion against Amanda Waller (Viola Davis). Peacemaker is apparently being tasked to “save the f***ing world,” meaning the stakes are going to be high for his next appearance.
