Is the Back 4 Blood open beta cross-play?

The Back 4 Blood beta has arrived, giving players a chance to check out the blood-soaked action ahead of the game’s full release. Available on PC as well as PlayStation and Xbox consoles, pretty much any player is welcome to jump into the mayhem. But can they join matches together? Does the open beta support cross-play between PC and consoles?

Does the Back 4 Blood open beta support cross-play?

The Back 4 Blood open beta supports both cross-play and cross-generation play. In fact, the beta itself is designed to test multiplayer and cross-play matchmaking. PC users will be able to mix with any players across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and the Series X|S.

Official confirmation of this detail comes from the Back 4 Blood Twitter account. The open beta is basically all-inclusive, as it supports all generations of all supported platforms. PS4 players can mingle with Xbox Series X|S and PC players, or join up with friends on PS5 or the Xbox One. Everyone is welcome to check out Turtle Rock’s Left 4 Dead spiritual successor.

However, it’s not yet clear if this cross-play support will extend into the actual launch. It’s a bit of an odd situation, as the game’s official Twitter account specifically mentions “intended support” at launch. It’s possible that the team is playing it safe by ensuring that cross-play is a planned feature for the full release, but accounting for the possibility of bugs appearing during the open beta.

If the system needs refinement, perhaps cross-play and cross-gen play won’t be available until after Back 4 Blood releases in October. But again, that’s the point of an open beta: To hammer out these problems ahead of time.

At any rate, cross-play and cross-generation play are in full swing throughout the Back 4 Blood open beta. Jump in with your friends across any platform from PlayStation to Xbox and PC. Just be sure to act quick, as the final open beta ends on August 16 at noon Pacific time.
